Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information ScanPlay collects, why, and your choices. It applies to scanplay.in, the ScanPlay Studio, the ScanPlay camera and the ScanPlay Android and iPhone apps.

1. Information we collect

• Account data: name, email address, WhatsApp/phone number, password (stored as a one-way hash), and the time of your last sign-in and last activity. If you sign in with Google we receive your name, email and Google account ID.
• Content: the photos and videos you upload, project names and settings.
• Payment data: credits bought, amount, Razorpay order and payment IDs. Card, UPI and bank details are entered on Razorpay's secure checkout and never reach our servers.
• Usage data: scan counts per photo (date and count), the number of different phones that scanned each photo (each phone is counted by a random number kept on that phone, not by who you are), taps on the button shown on a video (count only), and server logs with IP address and browser type for security.
• Camera: the ScanPlay camera sends small, low-resolution pictures from the phone camera to our own recognition server (reco.scanplay.in) to find which printed photo you are pointing at. They are used only at that moment and are not stored.

2. How we use it

• To provide the Service: store your content, generate QR codes, play videos to viewers.
• To send verification codes, password resets, payment receipts and important service notices by email.
• To send new users at most two short reminder emails with tips on making their first photo (each has an unsubscribe link).
• To understand, with Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel, which pages and advertisements bring visitors and sign-ups. These tools use cookies; we send them no names, emails or photos.
• To check every uploaded photo for adult content and to recognise its type (Personal, Business, Big advertising). An AI model looks at the photo for this.
• To count credits and phone limits, prevent abuse and keep the Service secure.
• To respond to support requests.

We do not sell personal data and do not show third-party advertising.

3. Sharing

• Razorpay (payments), Hostinger (hosting, email, recognition server), Anthropic (the AI model that checks uploaded photos, as above), Google (optional sign-in, fonts), Google Analytics and Meta (visitor statistics and advertising measurement; not on the scanner camera and not in the iPhone apps).
• Viewers who scan your QR see the video and project name you chose.
• Authorities when required by law.

4. Retention

• Photos and videos are kept while they play on your account (see the Terms, section 3) and are deleted when they end, when you delete them, or when you delete your account. Photos made with free credits are deleted when their free time ends.
• Account records and payment records (including invoices and credit history, also after an account is deleted) are kept as required by Indian tax law (up to 8 years) after which they are deleted or anonymised.

5. Your rights

You can view and update your name, phone and password in the Studio, delete individual photos or projects at any time, and delete your whole account yourself ("Delete my account" at the bottom of the Studio, confirmed with a code sent by email). You can also ask for account deletion or a copy of your data by emailing info@scanplay.in. We respond within 30 days.

6. Security

Data is transmitted over HTTPS, passwords are hashed, verification codes expire in 15 minutes, and the database is not web-accessible. No system is perfectly secure; tell us immediately if you suspect misuse of your account.

7. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect their data; contact us to remove it.

8. Android and iPhone apps

The ScanPlay apps for Android and iPhone open scanplay.in inside the app and collect the same data as the website. They ask for the camera permission to play videos on printed photos, and for file / photo access only when you choose a photo or video to upload or save a download. The apps contain no advertising SDKs or trackers, and inside the iPhone apps the website does not load Google Analytics or the Meta Pixel.

Live chat

When you use the chat on our website we keep the name and mobile number you give us, your messages, and, to help us answer you, the pages you visit on scanplay.in during your visit, your device type, your IP address and the approximate city worked out from it (on our own server, using IP Geolocation by DB-IP). If you are signed in, our team can see that you are a registered user. We use this only to answer your questions; we send you offers on WhatsApp only if you tick the box for it. Ask us anytime to delete your chat details.
